Characterful and well-priced burger joint and drinking spot in the heart of the town. They do a great veggie burger and fries and serve local beers and cider. Good deco, and on a sunny day, the front opens up onto the road and you can sit in armchairs or the sofa.

Famous for its cheese straws, Luder's also make possibly the best coffee in town. Sit outside even on a rainy day under the awning and next to the outside heaters in winter. Great selection of cakes and good for those last minute gifts: chocolates and local chutneys.

Take a nice long flat stroll along the beach wall all the way to the end where the train re-enters the tunnel towards Dawlish. A beautiful and uplifting walk that - if the tide is out - can be done along the sand too - expect joggers, dogs, push-chairs and walkers as its a popular hike .

Getting Around

The oldest ferry in the UK runs across the Teign between Teignmouth and Shaldon. Every few minutes in good weather, less so during the colder months, but what a way to get over to the delights of Shaldon - the Ness, Smugglers Tunnel, one of the best beaches in Devon, and the great bars and cafes of Shaldon.
