Prepare for a long queue to get the famous ice-kacang (translate to Shaved ice) and find a seat after that. But after all these years, the queue never stops getting longer but the satisfaction after eating the shaved ice and laksa is worth the wait!

While most people dwell at restaurants and cafes recommended by lonely planet, there is this stall that sells very yummy popiah and yam cake in front of a boutique shop that many tend to overlook. Popiah is literally the local version of spring roll with radish, peanuts, dried tofu and some seasoning sauce in it.

This isn't any fancy restaurant so expect to dine like a local. The signature dish this place offer is seafood (Primarily stringray) cooked in spicy and sour gravy, served with rice and salted egg. Depending on your tolerance of spiciness, prepare to order few cups of sirap Bandung (Rose syrup with milk) or Teh Tarik to survive through.

Baba Charlie has a humble beginning. They used to make nyonya desserts and delicacies and sell them in night markets. After the Singapore drama "The Little Nyonya" went popular, many came to Melaka to search for the ultimate dessert that the drama marketed: "Rempah Udang". It is fun to watch how they operate the business, with staff cooking in their kitchen as if they are running a little factory.

A Famosa is a Portuguese fortress that is just walking distance from Pahlawan mall and Jonker walk. The best way to explore this fortress is to climb the stairs to the top, look at the Melaka strait from it and imagine the fleets from enemy attacking Melaka, or look at the shopping malls and properties nearby and imagine those places were just sea before they were reclaimed 20 years ago.
