It was John Haynes’ love of motoring and business which formed the essence of the hugely successful Haynes Publishing Group. A collector of cars and most things related to them, John’s ambition to create his own Museum was perhaps inevitable. With limited storage of his own, and beginning to lose track of where they all were, he soon began to seek out a suitable building to house his cars. The new home for John’s ever-increasing collection was, of all places, the remains of a Second World War American munitions depot in Sparkford, Somerset. The site was ideal; not only would the collection be available to the public in one place but, by gaining the status of a UK independent charitable trust, its future would be also protected.

Sidmouth Beach is a beautiful expanse of sand and shingle beach, clean, accessible, and surrounded by awe inspring cliffs that make the beach feel very secluded. Sidmouth is known as the gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Sidmouth town beach is your typical seaside town beach, with a lovely promenade to walk across, colourful beach-facing buildings, and a lovely shingle beach. When the tide is low, rich red sand and fasinating rock pools are exposed, perfect for families to spend a day exploring, and the iconic red cliffs of East Devon will make a lovely view whilst you kick back in the sun. At the eastern end of the town beach, there's a slipway which gives boats access to the sea, and at the western end kayaks and canoes are available for hire.

The fine Minster church that gave the town its name towers above the small shops, market square and narrow streets crammed with mellow Ham Stone architecture. A diverse and friendly town, known for its variety of different shops in East Street, Silver Street, Ditton Street, Swan Precinct, North Street, West Street and Station Road, you will be hard pressed not to find what you are looking for. Ilminster's 18th century Meeting House is a thriving arts centre with gallery, local information centre and café and The Warehouse Theatre in Brewery Lane stages occasional productions. Most recently, Ilminster is proud to be home to the new store Temperley London at Phoenix Studios. Alice Temperley MBE founded her eponymous label Temperley London in 2000, a year after graduating from the Royal College of Art. Alice continues to head up the creative direction of this British independent brand, now in its 20th year of business.

Less well-known than some of the beaches found along the South West Coast Path, Eype Beach offers peaceful seclusion away from the more popular beaches located at Lyme Regis and West Bay. Sitting beneath the towering peak of Golden Cap the beach offers breath taking views along the awe inspiring World Heritage Jurassic Coast. There are few better locations to enjoy the evening glow as the sun sets to the west over Lyme Bay. Making your way to this secluded spot really gives you a slice of Dorset life from years gone by. Winding your way to the coast through narrow country lanes as you pass quintessential country cottages aplenty you really could have stepped back to a simpler time. The shingle, shelving beach can be quite steep as you enter the water’s edge so it advised to take caution when entering the water. Swimming should only be enjoyed by strong swimmers, the step shelving can create currents that can cause difficulty for less confident bathers. Eype Beach provides a haven for dog walkers and is open to dogs all year round. With the landscape on offer and a host of local walking routes leading from the beach it’s no surprise that it a favourite location for dog owners. Eype Beach also provides wonderful conditions for fossil hunting with some magnificent finds being unearthed along this stretch of coastline in the past. Home to plenty of ammonites you have every chance of finding your own piece of natural history. Parking can be found just above the beach with access to the beach via steps. A local pub, shops and local tea rooms offer refreshment opportunities, but the beach itself is a fantastic picnic location. With Bridport and Lyme Regis only a short drive away, Eype Beach should certainly be on your list of places to explore.
