The museum houses its collection in the artist’s home and studio, a really unique building and a landmark of Reykjavik, worth the visit. The museum is dedicated to the works of Asmundur Sveinsson (1893-1982). Asmundur was an Icelandic sculptor, born at Kolsstadir in West Iceland. Visitors can see his work can be seen all around Reykjavik, like in front of the University of Iceland or Perlan. His themes often depicted men and women at work, but as he grew older he moved away from the human and animal form and by the 1950’s his work was almost entirely abstract. Additionally, some of his works draw inspiration from Icelandic sagas.

Perlan (the Pearl) has a very nice exhibition, Wonders of Iceland with a man made ice cave, Northern light show, lava show and more. As well as on the fourth floor there is a large observation deck, on the top of the hot water tanks that are the foundation of the building. It gives an amazing 360° view of Reykjavík and the surrounding area. There is also an Icecream store and a coffee shop/restaurant and there is a zip-line in front.

Very nice place for meat lovers. We Icelanders are proud of our lamb meat, the sheeps roam free in the country side during summer, here you can taste some excellent lamb. Reservation is probably required.

If you walk to the nearest swimming pool (Vesturbæjarlaug) then the all-icelandic experience is to get ice-cream afterwards regardless of the season :) Try some icecream in a cone, dipped in a coating and then layered with crushed candy or “bragðarefur” where you blend iceceream and three kinds of candy of your choice into a swirl of indulgence :)
