Why not take a walk around the grounds of Westport house and explore the beautiful gardens, or better yet take a look inside the Georgian era house and transport yourself back to a time of Lords and Ladies. Steeped in history and scenic views I would highly recommend spending some time exploring. It’s the ideal location for a picnic also.

Situated less than 10 minutes outside Westport, it’s also known as Ireland’s Holy Mountain or if you really want to sound like a local it’s called ‘The Reek’. It’s a mountain not to be underestimated as it can be quite challenging but with all things in life, once you go at your own pace you’ll get there, and the views are well worth the hike. On a clear day the views of Clew Bay from the top are phenomenal and once you’re back down on level ground, a pint in Campbell’s is well deserved.

Carrowniskey Beach is best known for its waves and is a great place to do a spot of surfing. It’s also home to a bespoke coffee trailer called ‘The Atlantic Grind’, where you can get a great coffee and home-made treats. Both Keem Bay and Keel Strand are in Achill which boasts a few more fabulous beaches. It is well worth a day trip.
