Petworth house is home to one of the greatest art collections. Featuring paintings by Turner, Van Dyck , Reynolds and Gainsborough . The house sits in 700 acres of parkland . All of which is a 5 minute walk from 21 Pound Street . There is access to the house from the centre of Petworth . The state rooms are well worth a visit to view the art , and to take a journey through time in the life of the Percy family , who have lived there for 900 years . Visit the historic kitchens for an insight into the lives of the servants who served the family . Be sure to take a walk through the parkland to the stunning lake where you get the best view of the house .

If you are looking for somewhere to walk without getting in the car. You should definitely explore Petworth Park. Walk through the carpark, with the Hungry Guest Butchers on your right.Turn right immediately, and then left . Walk across the square towards the post office, and up Lombard street.( Beautiful picturesque cobbled street.) When you get to the top of Lombard Street turn right, the church will be in front of you. You will need to cross over to the pavement on the other side of the road . There is a beautiful Georgian House on the corner. Walk straight ahead along North Street Past Denham Heather Antiques. You will see on the left, some big gates in the stone wall. This is the pedestrian entrance to the park. Walk through the courtyard, and look for the tunnel to the park on the left hand side. When entering the park, turn right for a circular walk. You can take many paths, to make a long or short walk. If you have a car, you can drive out of Petworth along North Street. Over the mini roundabout by The Stonemasons Arms, keeping the Park wall on your left. After half a mile you will come to the North Car Park.

The Hungry Guest Cafe is a few yards from the cottage . It is in the garden of Newlands House . The area is heated and covered , Great for coffee and a croissant in the morning .
