Food scene

Two restaurants in one, the first is a pizzeria and theatre. They also play old movies for a few dollars and you can actually bring your pizza (and beer) into watch a movie. They also have a bar & grill - excellent burgers, wraps, rice bowls, etc. Lastly, they brew their own beer, if you like pizza, beer, movies, and grills I would check this out!

Great coffee house and breakfast / brunch / lunch place. Eggs Benedict are probably my favourite in town but they do everything good there.

Just excellent burgers /Poboys and a minute walk from this location. The Caroline is my favourite but everything done is very tasteful in a simplistic way all the way down to the buns.

Artisan Pizza with some combinations most wouldn't think of that go great together. Has some die hard supporters who swear it the best in town but its also not for everybody. Personal I really like it and they do have some more classic options so no one will go away disappointed.

Sightseeing

Lagoon in West Anchorage that connects to the Coastal trail, Kincaid Park and up to Downtown Anchorage. If you plan to rent a bike I would recommend getting used to accessing this location.

Want a safe place to see Moose, Bears (Black and Brown), Bison, Wolves, and more? This is the location, just past Girdwood maybe a (beautiful) hour drive around the inlet where you would be surrounded by mountains, beautiful ocean views and if you time it right you might see Beluga Whales!

Notorious bar in Anchorage with multi themed rooms with regular live performers - bands, comics, etc. Alaska has an old timer, sweat by your brow, Gold Panning, live and let live that people seem to be drawn too. That's the feel with Koot's. Can be old or modern, awesome or weird but its still all great.

Moderate hiking location in Anchorage. For active people it probably takes an hour up and then down. Once you summit you have a great few of the inlet, Anchorage and Eagle River. If you are looking for something active to do and reasonably accessible this would be a great option. You do have to drive up into the mountains to access the trail but the road is maintained. Once your there the trail system can take you up the mountains, behind it, or back down towards Anchorage (great for bikers) so there are options as well!

Neighborhoods

Technically still within the Anchorage Muni but Girdwood is it's own vibe. The people are a mix of ecletic's, artists, small shops / business owners, affluent's, and die hard skiers. Once you take the road from the highway to get to Girdwood the looming Alyeska Mountain speaks to the uniqueness of this place all on its own. They have nice restaurants (which are usually packed) and hiking / biking trails behind the resort. Usually the resort itself has a tram that can take you to the top of the mountain, which has a restaurant up there as well, with a breathe-taking view - it really is amazing.

Festivals / Events

Alaska has hard winters, so Alaskans like to play hard in the summer and fall and spring ... and well winter too. Make sure to look up local events and festivals while you are here. There's lots, we like them so much we are always trying new things that come and go but some have stuck around for awhile that you need to check out if you are here! Fur Rondy, Iditarod, Slush Cup, Bear Paw, Girdwood Forest Fair, Blue Berry Festival, Salmonfest, Alaska State Fair.
