Maïs is a festive Mexican restaurant that put a lot of thought and attention into creating very tasty small tacos on soft corn shells. You'll need to order 3 or 4 to feel full, unless you decide to order an appetizer or side. They have a fun summery cocktail menu as well. They have a couple of private tables for two. The rest is long communal tables. You can also sit at the bar.

If you're downtown and looking for a place to grab a bite, look no further than Café Parvis. Set in the old fur district, on a small hidden street, Parvis used to be an old fur shop. It has been opened up and peeled back to reveal layers of history. You can go there simply to grab a coffee or you can go for a full brunch (one of the best in the city) or you can go for lunch and choose from a selection of delicious pizzas and salads. Come back in the evening for a more intricate menu.

If you're looking for something out of the ordinary, Agrikol might be what you're looking for. Set in the gay village, east of downtown, Agrikol is a new Haitian restaurant and bar. It is in part owned by members of Arcade Fire. The vibe is very festive with loud compa music. The food is perfect to share and they have great rum-based cocktails. Drinks & Nightlife

Casa Del Popolo (or simply Casa for the regulars) is a pretty unique place. It's been around for a long time and attracts a mostly anglo crowd of artsy and slightly hippie type (and I mean that in the best way possible). During the day, it's a café that also serves great vegetarian sandwiches. Then at night, it turns into a bar with DJ's playing anything and everything, from synth-pop to 80's to techno, indie, you name it. Connected to it is a small venue that hosts concerts on a regular basis. You can catch a lot local bands a well as bands from abroad touring. They have a cute hidden terrace in the back (in the summer).

Anyone who's into architecture and modernism will probably want to check out Habitat 67. It is a model community and housing complex designed in, you guessed it, 1967, by Israeli/Canadian architect Moshe Safdie for the Montreal World Fair. It's composed of 146 residences made of concrete units stacked together on multiple levels. Definitely one of Canada's most recognizable and spectacular architectural landmark.

Les Étoffes is an upscale clothing store for men and women. They have a masterfully curated selection of garments from some of the nicest brands and designers. It's not cheap but if you're lucky and your timing's right, you might be able to score a piece at a discount. At the end of the season, it's not uncommon to find pieces at 70% off. The owners, Diana and Chris, are super nice, friendly and unpretentious.
