Cinema

A small and intimate cinema with a little bar situated on the top 2 floors of the old Sunday school built in the 1800. Fabulous building. Very uncomfy seats (as they ‘ saved’ them from the original Majestic Art Deco picture house). Although thankfully they have now added a few sofas at the back -which I think you have to reserve

Sightseeing

Very old Church in the centre of town. 11th or 13 Century can’t remember! An extremely expensive stained glass window by dante or Rossetti or William Morris- one of that ‘arts and crafts’ gang (can’t remember which) - insured for £13million .

Macclesfield was one of the few places in the uk that wove silk - and there is still a white mulberry tree outside the old Sunday school in recognition.

Macclesfield is the home of Hovis ! - Hovis Mill is now converted into flats but you can walk along the canal to see it and the lovely wharf there filled with canal boats.

Bike track or walk

The nearest entrance is minutes away - but is very hidden; on garden street / black lane and starts with a small footbridge over the river bollin . The Middlewood Way is an 11-mile "linear park" in England, between Macclesfield and Rose Hill, Marple, opened on 30 May 1985 by Dr David Bellamy. The Middlewood Way follows the route of the former Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple railway, which had operated between 1869 and 1970.
