City/town information

Beaufort is by far our favorite local town. Our house is just 15 minutes from Beaufort's incredible shops , dining, local events - and best of all Pirate folkflore and plenty of southern hospitality. Restaurants: Clawsons, Finz, and Dock House are a few of our local faves! Don’t skip No Name Pizza if you are looking for takeout or something with less seafood - it is awesome! If you are looking for an upscale option 34° North at Beaufort Hotel is worth a visit - the filet and collard greens are my personal favorite. Entertainment/Events: Check out the Old Beaufort Farmers Market Saturdays from 9a-1p. Sunset in Beaufort is nearly always picture worthy; even boats line up in Taylor’s Creek to watch the sun go down. Shopping: Visit them all if you love shopping! Haha! Strolling downtown Beaufort and visiting each unique shop is a favorite pastime. If I had to visit only a few I would head to Island Proper, Beaufort Mercantile and The General Store. Tours: Double Decker Bus Tours are only $12 on Saturday at 11am and 1:30pm. Or, the always popular Beaufort Ghost Walk may have a few spots available - 7pm start time is a perfect pre or post dinner activity!

If you are looking for a traditional day at the beach - without the crowds of most of the popular East Coast beaches, Atlantic Beach is the place to be. Great for family days on the water - with crystal clear water to boot! Restaurants: Shark Shack is a must visit if you love fried oysters (or shrimp, or crab, or just seafood), the outdoors and low frills. We go every time we are in town! Full Moon Oyster Bar is also a local favorite! Events: The AB Farmer’s Market is Sunday from 10a-12p at Jack Russell Park.

All the conveinces of a larger city just 20 mintues from our home. If you need to get some shopping in before you settle in - or want a traditional fast food or chain restaurant MHC provides many options. Restaurants: El’s Drive In is a cash only local staple for a great shrimp burger, hot dog or cheeseburger. No Name Pizza has a location in MHC as well. Jack’s Waterfront Bar always has great food and events going on! Shopping: Le Rouge Tete is a really neat consignment store if you are looking for decor, furniture or unique gifts - it isn’t all beach themed, but it is fun to browse even if those things aren’t on your agenda.

If you want to truly get away while on the coast drive the extra 5 mintues from AB to Pine Knoll Shores. Plenty of public beach access points and incredibly limited traffic and crowds.

Sightseeing

For longer visits a trip to Cape Lookout is a must! Island Ferry Express is available from Harkers Island. We recommend the sunset cruise or fireworks cruise when available.
