Food scene

This place is a mom-and-pop oyster and seafood spot. The food has always been delicious and the prices are always reasonable (some of the fresh specials are at Market Price). It's a local favorite and a great way to break bread with your family and friends. https://www.facebook.com/SimplySeafoodAndOyster

Sightseeing

This is a recently remodeled park, like most of the springs in the area, the water is very cold, but on a hot summer day, you really couldn't ask for more. The park is well maintained with pavilions and a set of stairs to walk into the spring.

Just a few minutes from the lakehouse, this canoe and Kayak rental will get you several hours on the Econfina. Be sure to stop off at all the spring locations on the creek and don't just charge on through to the end. You will make memories that last a lifetime on this beautiful canoe trail. Some notes when renting here - it's cash only, an ID for each vessel rented, and you must have a reservation. http://canoeeconfinacreek.net/ 850-722-9032

Cypress Springs is a Magnitude 1 spring with 65.3 Million Gallons / Day flowing into Holmes Creek and finally the Choctawhatchee River. Its incredibly pure and clear water is a crisp 68 degrees which is a blessing, especially on a hot summer day. Cypress Springs is not accessible by any road, instead, you must get there by boat! Holmes Creek Canoe Livery is a great way to visit because they drive you to the beginning of your trip and you end at the water park and your car. Pack your GoPro and don't under any circumstances forget your goggles! https://holmescreekcanoe.com/#home 850.210.7001 Note: No Pets Allowed

It's a giant natural swimming pool and as its name implies, is so striking it makes you think of the legendary fountain of youth Ponce De Leon was searching for. This is a cold water spring (68 degrees) perfect for swimming, fishing, hiking, and picnicking. There are pavilions and grills there however they get full pretty quickly in the summer. The park operates from 8 am to sunset and costs $4 per vehicle. https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/ponce-de-leon-springs-state-park

Shell Island is an undeveloped 7-mile barrier island and home to one of the world's largest populations of bottlenose dolphins. The 3-hour tour (don't worry, you won't get stranded on any desert islands here) is just enough to get you across St. Andrews Bay and into the peace and solitude of Shell Island. This is a favorite field trip destination of local schools for many decades (My first field trip there was in 1986). https://shellislandcruises.com/ 850-785-4878

So in case you forgot any of your basic necessities, this is the closest Walmart in the area. Its actually one of the largest I've ever seen.

City/town information

Just because you have your own beach at the lake doesn't mean you can't experience the Gulf of Mexico and the beautiful white sandy beaches found there as well. While Pier Park will get you to the Panama City Beach Pier and access to reliable parking even if you do have to walk a bit farther to get to the beach itself, there are nearly a hundred beach access points along the stretch of Gulf from Phillips inlet to St. Andrews park. https://www.visitpanamacitybeach.com/things-to-do/beaches/beach-access-points-and-map/
