Food scene

This is easily our favorite dinner spot in town. We are good friends with the owners and love to see them pouring their heart and souls into their dream. Weekends can get pretty busy here, so we recommend a reservation. They are listed on OpenTable, but we've had better luck just calling them to book. We've had everything on the menu, which does change seasonally. Our favorites have been the Marsala, the Gnocchi, Lasagna, and Parmesan. Truthfully, when Joe (chef/owner) is in the kitchen - which is always - we've never been disappointed with our selection. The truffle fries are a delicious kick start to the meal, and we always get a glass of wine because Angie (owner/manager) is a professionally trained Sommelier and she brings in some really cool selections.

Great sub sandwich spot in town. We really enjoy getting a couple of sandwiches to go, and taking them on a hike up in the canyon for a nice picnic. The sandwiches are a little pricey, and they seem to have trouble following through with special requests (e.g. provolone cheese instead of swiss), but they are still a great local establishment and the ingredients are fresh.

This is our favorite breakfast/lunch in town. It's not exactly a hidden gem, but we'd be remiss not to mention. Biscuits and Gravy (referred to as the B&G) are unlike anything I've had anywhere else. Pancake breakfast is always great and super filling. The Steak Sandwich is my favorite lunch option, although sometimes I'll get a little decadent and go for the Monte Cristo.

This little coffee shop is kind of the go to place for the college kids in town. My two favorite things from here are the Cinnamon Rolls and Americanos.

This is a great bakery that also has evening hours where it serves cocktails. As far as baked goods, I'd recommend the Kouign Ammon (pronounced "Queen A-mon"). They also have nice brunch sandwiches . Coffee is good, but not my favorite in town.

Recently relocated to the newly founded Lander Art District. It is located on the NW corner of 2nd & Main St. Really cool art by all local artists.

Get Outside

Great trails. About 15-20 minutes drive east from town. Trails are used for hiking, horses, and bikes. If looking to take bikes have a look at Trail Forks for details (Search Google "Trailforks Johnny Behind the Rocks") Johnny's Draw Trail to Red Ridge is a favorite.

Say it like a local: LOU-eee, rhymes with chewy. Louis Lake. Off the beaten path from your standard Lander attractions, but well worth the trip. It's about a 45 minute drive from Lander and it's on the Loop Rd. You can access it via highway 28, or Sinks Canyon Rd. Access to it opens up earlier via the highway (usually early June). Since it is a high mountain lake, temperatures can be cooler than in the Lander Valley, so if you plan on swimming, I'd go on a hot day. Get there before 9am if you want to grab the prime locations to set up your encampment.

Fry Lake and Worthen Res. have become some of my favorite spots to chill recently. They are at the top of the switchbacks in Sinks Canyon. Fry lake is closer and can be easily accessed with any standard vehicle. Worthen is a little bit further away and accessed via a dirt road, which can be interesting depending on how much traffic/maintenance it's received. Also, Fry lake can dry up in the later months of summer. Both are great spots for kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing, or just chilling and having a cook out.

Museum

This place is incredible! If you are coming or going through Dubious, WY and you have any time at all, you should stop and check this out! This collection started as a personal collection, turned passion and now one of the best museums I've ever been to. The owner of this museum out bid the Smithsonian Institute for the actual gun that started the Revolutionary War at Bunker Hill! I'd recommend 3-4 hours here, especially if you can get a time it and attend one of the tours given by the owner himself. it's a must see. Then grab some lunch and pie at the Cowboy Cafe afterwards.
