Why choose Kitemare Surf & Kite shop/SurfSUP Academy to teach you to surf? The shop is based in the center of Westward Ho! right on the village green. The shop is only 30 meters from the sea. The shop looks over the whole beach and is surrounded by other shops, restaurants, bars and coffee shops. You can make your surf lessons into a nice day out, enjoying the village or better still, can make learning to surf the center of your holiday.
All instructors are trained, certified, experienced and more importantly passionate about surfing. They all hold current beach lifeguard qualifications and are active within the local surfing community. The aim is to make sure you have the best possible time while making memories in a safe but fun environment.
All lessons are 2 hours long. This is the optimum length of time so you don't get too tired or cold and enjoy the whole learning experience.
The day starts at the shop where you are introduced to your instructor for the session. You are issued with a wetsuit and can get changed in changing rooms provided, all clothes left are safely kept on the premises . You will then receive a basic briefing on surf board safety and be issued a board. The first part of the lesson is on the village green where you learn about the conditions, safety and what to expect in the water. It is then off to the sea to get you up and riding plus implant a smile on your face that can last for days!
The whole lesson lasts 2 hours and after this you will be tired, happy and ready to take on anything!
Please note:-If there is no surf or the conditions are too wild to be safe lessons will not run. In this event they will re-book your lesson or refund your money.

The picturesque, ancient, fishing village of Clovelly is uniquely special and was once owned by the Queen of England. From Elizabethan days until today, Clovelly has been in private ownership, which has helped preserve its original atmosphere.
Clinging to a 400 foot cliff, it has no vehicular traffic, just donkeys and sledges. Its steep, cobbled street tumbles its way down to the ancient fishing harbour and C14th quay. It is a descent through flower-strewn cottages broken only by little passageways and winding lanes that lead off to offer the prospect of further picturesque.
There has always been a charge to visit Clovelly.
Like most historical landmarks (e.g. National Trust sites), they heavily rely on entrance fees for the essential maintenance and upkeep that comes with an ancient village perched on a 400ft cliff, with no vehicular access.

It holds water from the sea, and it provides a safe swimming haven for people who don’t want to deal with the waves. Rock Sea Pool is free to enter, and you can also check out some beautiful rock pools while you’re there!

BHS approved Roylands Riding Stables feature a fantastic Tiny Trek option which is ideal for your little one's first foray into riding! The kids can enjoy a 30 minute gentle walk out being led by friendly expert on a lead rein. This nice peaceful beginning will proceed along a quite bridle path with nice views of Croyde Bay as a backdrop, excellent for memorable photos!
Opportunities for the more experienced rider include scenic beach, dense woodland and sand dune hacks, all naturally offering differing riding conditions to master and enjoy. The sandy route particularly is a treat, being across 3 miles of beautiful Putsborough Beach, but it should be noted that this is for experienced over 14s only.
Dressage and jumping lessons are also available for improvers, plus Own A Pony Days for those kids who dream the dream! They can have a full day of Pony Ownership from 9.30am to 5pm which includes half hour tuition, a one hour hack, a stable management lesson and supervised responsibility over feeding and grooming the pony.
