Sightseeing
An iconic walk from Palm Beach to the Lighthouse and back offers spectacular views towards the Central Coast, to West Head, to Pittwater and down the Palm Beach headland.
The walk can be completed on two paths, the original path is steeper with steps and looks out over the Pacific Ocean. The newly completed walk to the west is more of a gradual incline with no steps.
My preference is short, sharp and steep to the east, I love the lookouts and photo opportunities and it's full of memories of my now adult children hiding in rock overhangs when they were little. The longer but no step option to the west makes my calves burn on the long consistently steep uphill trudge. An interesting option is to choose one way up and the other way down....Spectacular views are well worth the visit from the top-top tip, take lots of water and a camera/phone :)

Whale Beach

It is the Avalon end of the trail which also has the historically significant Angophora Red Gum tree (now dead, but still standing), which gave the name to the reserve. It is hard to miss, at about 2m width on the side of the trail. This particular Angophora Red Gum tree is believed to be approximately 1000 years old. It’s pretty hard to miss it as you meander along the track.
While part of the track is stairs, mostly it is a beautiful track. There are a number of interesting rock features that you cut through on the path. A large variety of ferns is also present throughout the track.
At the far end the track splits, providing opportunities to connect up with Chisholm Avenue and Hilltop Road in Avalon, or continue straight ahead to meet up with Wandeen Road, Clareville. While walking this trail most of the people you will bump into will be locals, many using it as a shortcut between points. This trail is magical, try it!
Then have a swim or a SUP at Clareville Beach, life doesn't get much better...

It is worth a the donation just to breathe in the beauty. you will be moved :)
