Det skal du pakke

What to pack

• Casual comfortable clothing and shoes - it is hot! Sunglasses, swim suit and a wrap. Water shoes and snorkel gear, if you have them (or can easily rent). Bring nothing valuable (jewelry, etc.). Just not the vibe. Long sleeve pants/shirts for night time (if bug sensitive). • A water bottle. Reef safe sunscreen to reduce damage to coral reefs (Amazon has). Help yourself to the books and card games. • We supply beach towels, beach chairs and some snorkeling gear, some sunscreen and bug spray.
Book, inden du rejser

Book before you go

TRANSPORTATION LOGISTICS: During peak season, book a rental car ASAP (can be short supply). Go to www.ViequesInsider.com for car rental companies. If cars are limited, taxis and publicos are good options. We recommend arriving in San Juan early enough (or staying overnight in San Juan to enjoy the Old San Juan) to allow time for either 1) the 25 min flight directly from SJU-VQS or 2) a 45 min/1 hour taxi from SJU to Ceiba to catch either A) a short 10 minute flight on VAL from Ceiba RVR to VQS (via Viequesairlink.com; last flight leaves at 5pm) or B) the Ferry (www.puertoricoferry.com).

Finding Provisions/Groceries

Downtown Isabel II/Calle Munoz Rivera has 3 groceries to provide a surprising variety of provisions: Family Market, Supermercado Morales and Buen Provecho and en route to the airport near the Avis Rental Car/Total Gas Station is a larger Superdescuentos Morales Market. Health food store - Yerbabuena Y Mas is in the center of Isabel II (good yogurt). For veggies/fruit, go Farmer’s Market on 201/200 intersection past the Avis (towards the airport) on Tues and Fri only, but a converted gas station (seriously!) south of the intersection of 200 on 997 has great selection fruits/vegetables.

Don't Miss BioBay and Snorkeling Excursions

Snorkeling Tour Recommendation: There are many outfits listed in viequesinsider.com, but we highly recommend Crystal Clear Snorkeling, run by Sarah-Elise (connect with her on Facebook) because of her excellent knowledge of aquatic life and eco consciousness. She will not disappoint! Bio Bay Tour Recommendation: Go to viequesinsider.com. We recommend Taino Aqua Adventures for their translucent kayaks. Go to tainoaquaadventures.com

Driving around Vieques

Drive carefully and SLOWLY! In particular, be alert for wild horses, chickens and dogs on the roads, particularly at night. Watch for drainage coverts that give new meaning to the idea of speed bumps! If you must rent a golf cart, take extra precautions on the busy roads between Esperanza/Isabel II and on the steep incline going up/down to our home. For these reasons, we strongly recommend renting a car; however, using taxis and Publicos for short trips into town and the Isabel II-side beaches/Mosquito Pier excursions can be economical vs. renting cars for upwards of $90/day.
