Everyone knows that Memphis has great BBQ. What everyone does not know is that we have one of the best fried chicken restaurants in the world. No seriously, just Yelp them. This one is closest to my house but you can go to the one downtown as well. Do not leave Memphis before going to Gus's!!!

Perfect restaurant for your stay in East Buntyn. Char is an upscale steakhouse that offers both USDA Prime and Choice cuts of beef so there's something for the average Joe like myself or the foodie in the family :). Great bar on the side of the restaurant with over 80 choices of bourbon. The food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. The ONLY negative thing I can say about this place is that they put cumin in the mac & cheese. What's that about!?!

Char Restaurant

Char is an upscale steakhouse that offers both USDA Prime and Choice cuts of beef so there's something for the average Joe like myself or the foodie in the family :). Great bar on the side of the restaurant with over 80 choices of bourbon. The food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. The food, the ambiance, and location can't be beat. Obviously you'll order ribs but I'd also HIGHLY recommend the Lamb Riblets and Sausage & Cheese plate.

Drinks & Nightlife
You can't go wrong hanging out in Overton Square. Beale street is for the tourists but Overton Square is where the locals hang out. Brewpub, piano bar, live music, gastropubs and phenomenal restaurants. Hit several places in one night!

So The Casual Pint is where all the beer-drinking East Buntynites hit up. It's a small beer store with several beers on tap. Kind of like a coffee shop except they sell beer instead of coffee. If they don't have your beer on tap then you can grab one out of the fridge and they'll pour it into a pint glass for you. As the name suggests it is a casual experience. The owners are always there and you'll run into the folks that live in the neighborhood. Walkable from my house. Great place to grab a quiet pint or two without feeling like you're in a noisy bar.

When you've already visited Graceland, the Civil Rights Museum, and Beale Street and are wondering where to go try the Memphis Zoo. It's ranked as one of the top five zoos in the country. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Right at the corner of Poplar and Highland. This Kroger has the highest foot-traffic in the state. They even have a guy that works there named "Elvis." Not kidding!

Shelby Farms is one of the largest urban parks in America. About five times larger than Central Park in NYC. You can hike, ride horses, go kayaking or even hit the mountain biking trails.

Sightseeing
So this is the flagship store for Bass Pro Shops. After many years of negotiating they finally moved into the old Pyramid (out of use since FEDEX Forum opened). If you're into the outdoors you'll love this place. However you can also take a ride on America's tallest freestanding elevator to the bar and observation deck at the top of the Pyramid. If you are scared of heights you may want to avoid going outside on the deck as the floor is made of transparent plexiglass. Otherwise it's a super cool experience.
