Founded by Jean de la Valette, the Grand Master of the Order of the knights of St. John who gave it its name, in 1566. The capital is full of architectural scenery. The city is protected by impenetrably thick walls which were built to defend it from the Ottoman invasion.

Widely considered as the jewel of Valletta, the world famous Co-Cathedral was commissioned in 1572 as the conventual church of the Order and completed I 1577. Designed by Maltese architect Giorlamo Cassar, its facade belies its lavish interiors, whose embellishment was largely entrusted to celebrated Italian artist, Mattia Preti. Among the Co Cathedral’s countless treasures is Cravaggio’s ‘Th Beheading of St John the Baptist’, completed in 1608 and displayed in the Oratory.

The 'Triton Fountain' is located just outside the city gate of the capital Valletta which consists of three large bronze tritons holding up a large basin and is one of Malta's most important Modernist landmarks.

Definitely worth to visit this spot and grab an ice-cream from one of the stalls surrounding the Pjazza.
