This is a stylish but really informal, nautically themed bar and restaurant that has famously friendly service. They cater brilliantly for specialist diets (day before notice is very much appreciated). There's a real fire for chilly days, sofas for lounging on, and really great food. Live low-key jamming sessions on Thursday evenings. We love this place and always spend time there when we are in West Mersea.

Sightseeing
Walking along the sea-front is fabulous here! WM is a real, live fishing harbour, with lots of great boats and stunning views. There's also a footpath around the whole island (about 15 miles, flat). Walk either way along the beach and explore the amazing houseboats, creeks, marshes, and so on - bring your camera, especially for the stunning sunsets!

Over on East Mersea, a 10 minute drive away, there's Cudmore Grove Country Park, for walking, birdwatching (there's a hide) and more lovely views from the beach. Absolutely lovely!

You can see the 'Packing Shed' out at sea, on a patch of sandbank! That's got an interesting history. Also, you can walk along the beach enjoying the sight of all the genuine fishing boats, and the many oyster fisheries and oyster restaurants!
