Thomas Telford designed this weir to draw water from the River Dee in to the canal, and it became a stunning addition to the landscape. At 140M long, the Horseshoe Falls are a sight to behold. To reach Horseshoe Falls you can enjoy a scenic walk along the Llangollen Canal towpath to the meeting point of the canal and the River Dee. The beautiful Llangollen Canal twists its way through the awesome Welsh hills and across the spectacular Dee Valley & is a top choice for boaters and family visits alike. Both areas are part of the 11 mile long UNESCO World Heritage Site around Pontcysylte Aqueduct and Chirk. 12 miles / 21 minutes

On 11 August 1942, a US Air Forces Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress crashed into the side of Cadair Berwyn resulting in the deaths of all eleven passengers and crew. 28 miles / 60 minutes
