A lovely walk up Cannon Hill to Ardrossan’s Castle ruins with spectacular views from height of all surrounding areas As well as the Ardrossan Castle Ruins A monument stands in tribute to Dr Alexander MacFadzean, a local Ardrossan, doctor and philanthropist best known for his contributions to the town that include ring gas lighting and piped water to the town. The monument is an obelisk sitting on a base engraved with a dedication to the good doctor. At the foot of the monument is a repose lion, but the leonine sculpture is just about recognisable as it's badly worn away. Located at the top of Castle Hill, it's also where Ardrossan is located, both of which are part of the Ardrossan Heritage Trail from North Ayrshire Council. There's also a QR code at the monument where you can find out more information about both the trail and MacFadzean.
