You can take the train or drive up on your own. The drive is much shorter than taking the train and of course much cheaper. You have to abide by the train's schedule regarding how long you can stay on the mountain, also. It's a full afternoon trip, which ever way you go.

I like the small town of Idaho Springs and the fact it has affordable hotels and unique places to eat all in a small radius. The Indian Hot springs are indoors so you can go no matter the weather.

I have dined at Panino's for as long as it's been down the street from our home. The owners are local and the food is good and not too expensive. It's about 145 feet from our front door!

Great pizza, and fun atmosphere.
This is a locally owned Italia Restaurant that has been here for 50 years. The grandchildren now run it and the pasta is so fabulous, it really is a must!

You can use their golf clubs if you didn't bring your own! The drinks and food after wards are in a great restaurant where you can see the mountains and sit inside or outside. My family and I go just to do that!
