Teignmouth Back Beach

If you’re looking for a great spot for a family beach holiday, take a look at Teignmouth. On top of the traditional sun, sand and surf there’s loads more to see and do that’s guaranteed to keep the kids and the grown ups entertained. Traditional Seaside Holiday The beach itself is a long one so you don’t need to worry about the crowds, even during the summer. It stretches down from the mouth of the River Teign along the red cliffs which stretch toward Dawlish. The beach is overlooked by an impressive Victorian Pier and nearby you will find a play park, crazy golf, skate park, green, ice cream huts and parade, Teignmouth beach is one of those beaches that will take you back to your childhood. Teignmouth is also a dog-friendly beach during the winter months, so you can even bring the dog along for an out of season break. Things to Do If you get fed up of just kicking back and relaxing, the town has a wide range of shops from Fish and Chips to souvenirs or you could catch the passenger ferry across the water to the village of Shaldon. If you’re feeling thirsty or the kids need re-fuelling, there’s plenty of local cafés serving drinks and light bites and there are nearby toilets so you don’t get caught short. Onsite parking means you don’t have far to carry your beach gear and there’s disabled access for those with mobility restrictions. There’s also plenty of accommodation nearby including family-run hotels and B&Bs. You’ll also find self-catering cottages in the area or you can get back to nature on one of the local campsites. Teignmouth isn’t far from other major towns such as Exeter and Newton Abbot, so in the evenings you can check out some of the local nightlife. Teignmouth Town Beach A long sandy beach stretches from the mouth of the River Teign down towards Holcombe. Whether you choose to stroll along the Victorian Promenade and Pier, to watch the working fishing boats, or to visit the children's play area or adventure golf course, Teignmouth has everything to make the perfect family day out. Be aware watercraft are not allowed between the yellow marker buoys and the shoreline to protect bather safety River Beach Located on the estuary side of the town this charming beach really does transport you to days gone by. Local fisherman mend nets, sand eels are caught, boats bob up and down with the tide and children splash and play. Take time to relax and breathe in the sea air. The views of the Upper Teign estuary looking towards Dartmoor are spectacular, particularly just as the sun is setting or rising. Doesn't matter what time of year, the view remains breathtaking. Decoy Country Park

Decoy Country Park, Newton Abbot A Green Flag award winning country park and local nature reserve on the edge of Newton Abbot. Decoy Country Park provides an opportunity to enjoy formal playing fields and a large children's play area with a water play feature. Other popular amenities include a lake supporting water sports activities and a deciduous woodland with a trim trail incorporated into it. Decoy was once a clay quarry but now supports a wealth of wildlife, with the main habitats being ponds, streams, fen, wet woodland and heath woodland. Parts of the Country Park are either a County Wildlife Site (CWS) or a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The Park provides opportunities for quiet countryside recreation such as walking, wildlife watching, duck feeding and picnics, with good wheelchair and pushchair access. Educational facilities are provided at the Decoy Discovery Centre. Dawlish Warren prides itself on being one of the UK's finest beach resorts. Here you'll find a long beach, flanked by distinctive sand dunes and an internationally recognised nature reserve. The Warren is designated as a Special Area of Conservation and boasts a wide variety of coastal habits, supporting over 600 different species of flowering plants and dune grasslands. The Warren is a key part the Exe Estuary Special Protection Area and Ramsar site - an area of international importance for wildlife. It provides the main roosting site for huge numbers of wading birds and wildfowl that spend the autumn and winter on the Estuary. The Warren is also designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) for its dune grassland, humid dune slacks and the tiny, rare 'petalwort' that grows there. As well as fixed and mobile dunes, there are meadows, copses, reedbeds, ponds and saltmarsh here - and the whole sandspit is of considerable geomorphological interest.
