Beach and coastal location

This beach is a 10mins drive from our house. It is worth buying a week's parking pass if you are here for a week. It is a breathtaking place to visit. At low tide the beach is vast. The new visitors' centre has great coffee and a really interesting exhibition about the Northam Burrows and the North Devon Biosphere. The beach is usually immersed at high tide and doesn't fully dry out so you need chairs to sit on the sand. It's a great place to make camp for the day or to just pop for a quick swim at the end of a busy day walking the coastal path!

Instow beach is a great location for a short walk before heading into one of the pubs or into John's delicatessen for a coffee. Or for the more energetic you could join the Tarka Trail here or walk the SW coastal path. We love walking along the beach and round to the next bay where there are some wonderful rusty boats.

Sådan kommer du omkring

Good bus services.

There are plenty of buses to take you to all the main areas of interest but you'll need a car to head into the moors or to go to more remote places of interest.
Det skal du pakke

Bring walking shoes/boots and beach kit.

There are lots of amazing places to walk to. You can walk to the coastal path from our door in about 50 mins. It's really worth doing at least a bit of the coastal path as the view are wonderful and no roads really get you to such amazing views. If you want to swim it's easy to do so here; you could swim in the sea or wild swim on the moors. In the winter you'll need wellies to walk on the beach. If you are going to stay on the beach at Westward Ho! you'll need a windbreak and chairs, which we can supply if you need to borrow some.
Rejse med børn

Great attractions aimed at kids.

If you can get the kids off the beach or it's raining then there are some great places to visit, The Big Sheep, The Milky Way and North Devon Wake Park. Victoria Park in Bideford has some great play equipment and a large paddling pool.
Skikke og kultur

A slower pace of life.

Things are relaxed here in North Devon, people drive less aggressively and will even stop to let people out from a road on the left! Be ready for this! You need to also add in the "tractor factor" for any journeys you plan to make as this is a predominantly rural community. Also, be aware that some of our local roads are very narrow and you need to be confident reversing your vehicle if you meet something coming the other way! This is your chance to slow down and relax too...
