Closest Beaches
Quiet and ruggedly beautiful National Trust beaches . Overlooked by cliffs carpeted in wild flowers . Northcott and Sandymouth have lifeguards in season. These are great family, as well as more off the breaten track, Surf spots . Duckpool is our closest ( 10mins ) .
At the mouth of Woodland walk , Coombe Valley. Overlooked by cliffs carpeted in wild flowers . Its a 10 min drive with easy parking and is best at low tide. Also great surf spot (for advanced surfers) and is great for kids rockpooling . Toilets are closed this year for some reason.

This is always written about as one of Cornwalls best kept secret beach . It’s wild and remote but still with lifeguards in season and a tea room set back off the beach in a garden . There’s national trust parking and is accessed by coming back on yourself through Bude by car . It’s a very short beach stroll from Sandymouth being the next cove up but make sure the tides going out not in !

Bude town has a lovely selection of independent shops both gifty and touristy but also practical things like cobblers and hardware stores . There are two Surf shops , a great Bookshop with cards and toys , lots of gift shops , a health food shop , refill whole foods store , lots of pasty bakeries and lots of charity shops .

. Outside of town you’ll find the best bakery and the big supermarkets Morrison’s and Lidl . In town there’s a smaller sainsbury and co op .

This is our neatest town its small but has Moores the butcher and a Co op .( 10 mins ) The fish and chip shop Gillets is here too . Wait time about 30-1hr usually at this time of year so plan ahead .

Coastal walks
Our area is awash with beautifully rugged coastal paths and secret coves for remote sea swimming.

Surfers Against sewage have bought a grassy plot here so anyone is allowed to camp in the beach cliff . It’s beautiful and serene with a little river tumbling down a small waterfall . This then cascades down onto a dramatic rugged Rocky beach . It’s amazing how these two energetic bodies of water come together . A great spot

A quirky driftwood hut set into the cliff overlooking the Ocean . Built by the victorian local legend , Reverend Hawker it’s now maintained by National trust. Its a short walk across the cliff from the rectory tea rooms . Alternatively you can access it from the Bush inn through the valley .
With space for a few cars this is a lovely walk through woods down a valley to another remote stoney beach with rock pools .

From Docton Mill , the beautiful gardens (£4) with cafe , this is a short walk to really dramatic waterfall . There’s no easy access to the beach here but the waterfall is worth watching from the cliff top .
