City/town information

This small town beach is on the bay not the oceans so there tends to be more mud and bugs. This beach is good for nature walks, fishing or bird watching. It’s possible to swim but its on the bay so the waves are smaller and the tide can sometimes go way out resulting in little to no water to swim in. When the tide does come in, it can cause a super high tide resulting in the water to go over the road. Please Check on the tides before heading there. There’s public parking at the boat ramps. Please be advise that the current is extremely strong in the channel between South Bowers (private beach) and Bowers Beach (public) so approach with caution. If you walk past the boat ramp towards the rocks you will find the beach area where it’s safer to swim but once again please approach with caution.

Bombay Hook- This is a wildlife, bird rescue and bird viewing park. It’s ran by the federal government as a wildlife reserve. You can drive thru the park or get out and walk thru the park. Very common spot for the bird watching family. You must pay to enter as well 30 minutes by car and 22 miles from the house

Prime hook - another bird watching park with nature trails to explore. There’s also a small beach there as well. ( the beach isn’t a swimming beach rather more of a bird watching beach) 27 minutes from the house and 21 miles

Sightseeing

Rehoboth Beach- This beach is one of the most famous beaches in Delaware. It’s your typical beach with its mile long boardwalk, restaurants, beach shops, silly photo booths, Salt water taffy and the famous Thrasher French Fries. The iconic Dolly’s salt water taffy is also located at this beach. There’s ton of parking (metered) and plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. This beach is the biggest beach and has the most family friendly activities.

Dewey Beach- This beach is for the partiers. This small town just south of Rehoboth is home to the famous beach bars of Delaware. Bottle and Cork, Starboard, Rusty Rudder and Woody’s. You’ll find most people are attending the actives at the bars rather then the beaches. The beaches are clean like Rehoboth and the parking is by a parking pass which you pay at the police department. Don’t try to sneak with the parking because the meter maids will fine you. I would recommend getting lunch or dinner at the Rusty Rudder pay to park in their lot (you can use your parking voucher towards food) then just exploring the town after your meal. Free parking. 56 minutes by car and 34 miles from the house

Indian River Inlet State Park- This beach is another state park so you must pay to enter, I believe its $5 as well. There’s bath house, camping, fishing and sometimes you can see surfing. The channel between the two state parks is super strong so absolutely DO NOT SWIM in the inlet/channel. If you wish to swim you need to walk to the beach. The inlet is for fishing and boats. On one side is the Delaware Seashore State Park and the other side is the Indian River Beach. If you want to go on the beach I would recommend going to the right side ( Indian River Beach, which is geared towards the beach goers, bath houses restaurant. The left side Delaware Seashore State Park is a long walk to the beach from your car buy walking under the bridge. As you make your way down RT 1 past this beach you will find more state park beaches but the parking is very limited and tends to fill out rather quickly. 1 hour and 5 minutes by car and 40 miles from the house
