Parks & Nature
Staunton State Park has wonderful hikes, picnic areas, and a couple of stunning mountain lakes. During the summer, you can enjoy trout fishing in a stocked lake at the entrance to the state park. Plan to pay for parking unless you have a Colorado state parks pass.

This gorgeous mountain lake is open in the summer for paddle boarding and summer sports. It's a great place to enjoy a picnic or walk around the lake. There are also numerous local restaurants within a mile of the lake.
In the winter - depending on the weather - it's open for ice skating. Rent ice skates there and enjoy hot chocolate between rounds! Plan to also enjoy intense sledding right by the lake while you're there!

Scooters is a fantastic local BBQ joint. The owner and chef is from Texas, and it shows! We usually call ahead and order take-out as it's not far from the house, but you can certainly enjoy dinner there as well. This is the best take-out option from our house.
