Places you have to visit

The salt pans are one of the most famous points of interest in Trapani. The immense land of extraction extends for 1000 hectares. Furthermore, for many years a Natural reserve has been established, managed by the WWF, to protect the territory as an irreplaceable stopping place in the migration of 229 bird species. Inside the area it is possible to visit the storage tanks, the traditional windmills and the Salt Museum. A guided tour with WWF operators is also available upon reservation. We’d recommend visiting during the sunset, when the landscape will be colored by the flight of the pink flamingos flocks that inhabit the area.

The Segesta Archaeological Park is what remains of the ancient city today, founded by Trojan refugees in the 9th century BC. For a long time it had a heated territorial rivalry with Selinunte - which itself has a majestic archaeological park - and Syracuse. The park features two main landmarks: the Doric temple and the splendid ancient theater, located on the top of the hill. The first one, dates back to the 5th century BC and is located outside the city walls; the theater, still in use today, uses the panorama of the valley as a backdrop to stage suggestive shows. The full ticket costs 10€, including the shuttle to reach the theater.

Erice, located on the top of the mountain that dominates Trapani, is a small village originally founded in the 1st millennium BC by exiles from Troy, and in the following millennia has witnessed various occupations: from the Greeks to the Romans, from the Arabs to the Normans, up to the Spaniards. Its history has repercussions on a varied architecture, but does not affect its strong identity. The points of interest are many: the enchanting Castle of Venus, the various churches and the ancient walls, without forgetting the suggestive streets that connect the ups and downs of the city. It can be reached both by car and via the modern cableway.

Located at the end of the historic center, the Ligny Tower marks the splitting point between the two seas that bathe Trapani. It was erected in the 17th century as a coastal watchtower and today is considered the main symbol of the city. It has recently been converted into a Civic Museum and exhibits a series of historical and prehistoric artifacts found in the Trapani seabed. The tower is located in a restricted traffic area, an ideal destination for a walk along the fascinating Tramontana Walls. At the base there is a welcoming beach of sand and cliff.

Crystal clear sea

Favignana, Marettimo, Levanzo. Although the three Egadi islands belong to the same archipelago, each one shines with its own identity. Favignana, the most famous and accessible, offers golden beaches and a lively nightlife. Marettimo is appreciated for excursions and boat tours. Levanzo is unspoiled and peaceful. All three are surrounded by a wonderful crystal-clear sea. The islands are easily reachable from Trapani's port, by hydrofoil or ferry. The round trip starts at 25€. You'd better book in advance during the peak season.

The 7 km of coastline of the Zingaro Reserve is the highest expression of sea and unspoiled nature in western Sicily. Between San Vito and Scopello, the reserve has 6 coves with pebble beaches that overlook one of the brightest sea mirrors in the whole region. Not only that, protected flora, fauna and the caves give a complete excursion. To reach the coves you can face three different routes: each adventurer can shape the length and difficulty of his own path, making the excursion exciting for both the most experienced and the youngest. We'd recommended venturing early in the morning, before the midday heat.

The Adventure Park is the ideal place to spend valuable relaxing time away from the city. Perfect destination for families and tourists, it is located inside the Martogna Park, on the slope of Mount Erice. The 5 acrobatic routes are made through suspended passages between the trees, whose differences in height and difficulty provide challenge and fun for visitors of all ages. Archery adds an further moment of adrenaline. In addition to the activities, it is possible to visit the animals zone, explore trails, or enjoy the landscape under the pine-forest coolness in the picnic area.
