Sightseeing

The scurrilous man who established large parts of the city (Patrick Mayne) committed murder and left the dismembered body of his victim here. The crime was notorious for decades, but he only admitted to it on his deathbed in the 1880's. By that time he already owned large parts of the city and had set its destiny. His son (a wonderful philanthropist who knew nothing of his father's crimes, and who was educated as a doctor at Oxford), established the Royal Brisbane Hospital, and later bequeathed land to Queensland University, which remains one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. This is also a good spot to view the Storey Bridge, the city, and its a nice walk around the point on the river sand and amongst the mangroves.
