This 14th century pub is well worth a visit. The outside tables are very popular in the summer, as is the roaring log fire in the winter!

Sightseeing

One of Devon's oldest and most architecturally significant parish churches. The square central tower is one of only four completely Norman towers in Devon. Other interesting features include the 15th century font and the 18th century pulpit, which is a three-decker and almost unique in Devon. Beautiful and atmospheric, and worth a visit even if you're not a member of a church community. Fascinating old graveyard too!

If you are determined to find a fossil on the Jurassic Coast, there is no better hunting ground than Charmouth Beach, less than half an hour's drive from Branscombe. There's a great visitor centre, where you can arrange to join a talk and guided fossil walk with an expert. Or just rummage amongst the shingle for belemnites and ammonites.
