Come and visit an historic river port built to support the mines and see a working village, mine, and craft center. Activities include making your own chocolate lolly, making your own bread roll, dressing up like a Victorian, experiencing being a child in a Victorian classroom, trying rope making, and learning to pan for gold. Extra: Ride the mine train to explore the copper mine. Distance from cottage: 12 minute drive, 2 hour walk.

You can visit the abbey, explore the estate, and relax in the garden.

Kit Hill & Kit Hill Country Park Hill with a scenic view, rich mining history, and site of historic battle in 838 between the Cornish, Vikings, and West Saxons, resulting in a West Saxon victory. It is in the same area as Kit Hill Country Park described below. Mountain with a great view. It is 334 meters tall. “Kit” comes from old English for “Kite”, a reference to birds of prey which can still be seen on the hill. It is the highest point on the Tamar Valley AONB. It was formed by the intrusion of magma onto sedimentary rock. It is the highest point of Hingston Down, and the Kit Hill Country Park has lots of wildlife including deer and badgers, rabbits, rare moths and butterflies.
