Many first-time visitors to the city don't realize that you can take a ride to the top of the Arch, and that there are museums and galleries beneath it in the park. Truly, if you've never been, you won't want to miss it. This is operated by the National Park Service.

One of the jewels of St. Louis's landscape, Forest Park is actually 40% larger than New York's Central Park. Besides the gorgeous natural scenes and walking/biking paths, there are sports fields and museums all over this well-maintained campus.

This collection of gardens is magnificent. A person could easily spend an entire day here, and a true lover of gardens and plants could spend a week, if he or she wanted to. It is gorgeous, and it's very accessible for people in wheelchairs. There is a tram that helps people with different abilities navigate all the different portions of the site. The tropical paradise inside the geodesic dome ought to be named one of the wonders of the world.

This free museum houses some things you might expect--George Caleb Bingham paintings of rural American life--as well as some other works you might *not* expect to find in a Midwestern city, such as The Voyage of Life paintings by Thomas Cole, an enormous painting of King Charles I in his coronation robes, and pieces by Cézanne, Matisse, Rodin, and so many more. The museum structure itself is a thing of beauty. This is a terrific activity for a morning or afternoon.
