When in Florence do as Florentines do

Never walk before breakfast

My favourite spots to have breakfast in Florence
Rather than reaching the city centre through the train station, walk along the river Arno. Begin your walking tour at Lungarno Vespucci and, on the opposite side of the river, you will be able to grab a coffee, or breakfast, or lunch at Bistrot Santarosa. Placed within a Florentine garden, it is the perfect spot to have a rest before making your way into the city.

If you began your day with a visit to the Uffizi gallery, allow yourself to have a nice specialty coffee, or second breakfast or brunch at Melaleuca. These guys just entered the Florentine scene, but they are already one of my favourite places! The atmosphere is international and chilled, food and coffee are great, and they have a few tables outside to enjoy the good weather!

Placed in one of the most typical little squares in Florence (look it up online to discover where the square gets its name from!), Ditta Artigianale is one of the best (and award-winning) specialty coffee roasters and shops in Italy. No matter how addicted you are to caffeine, this is THE must-visit place for quality coffee in Florence!

All you need is love. But a little food now and then doesn't hurt.

My favourite spots to have lunch and dinner in Florence
Make sure you visit the MERCATO CENTRALE for an amazing variety of Tuscan food! The hamburger made of 100% Chianti beef meat if super nice. Living la vida meatless? You will find stalls that make great vegetarian options, extraordinary pizza and fresh home-made pasta!

If you want to have the typical Florentine T-bone steak ‘FIORENTINA’, also available sliced as ‘TAGLIATA’, visit La Vecchia Bettola. You will find it off the beaten track, in a nice little piazza off the SAN FREDIANO borough. It is always very crowded though, so it would be best if you booked your table in advance!

If you want to have a lunch on the go (and are not allergic to gluten), visit ALL’ANTICO VINAIO. They have four tiny shops on the same street (Via De’ Neri), and they only sell SCHIACCIATA (Florentine focaccia) with various fillings. You might have to queue at all of them, but they are super fast and they are worth the wait. They were the most rated place on TripAdvisor a few years ago!

Located right in the middle between the boroughs of San Frediano and Santo Spirito, it is definitely one of my favourite gelato places in Florence! Plus, you can have your gelato on the bridge nearby, while admiring the Old Bridge!
