Why not take a walk, run or perhaps try skiing in one of the local's favourite nature areas on Tromsø Island? There are slopes around Prestvannet that you can follow to the North or South point of the Island. If heading North, you can stop by Charlottenlund in the winter and try sledding down the slopes (remember to bring something to ride on). On the South end you may find the popular bathing destination Telegrafbukta.

This is a must when visiting Tromsø. Fjellheisen is a gondola that brings you to the top of Fløya, about 400m above the sea. The ride takes 4 minutes and gives you the opportunity to view Tromsø from above. For the sporty ones, it is possible to walk to adjacent mountains close by (summer or winter) or walk up to Fløya instead of taking the gondola (summer). There are clearly marked trails from the bottom of the gondola.

If you like a good hike, hiking up Tromsdalstinden is a great way to spend some of your vacation if you're visiting during the summer/autumn. Over 1200 meters high, this is a streneous walk and it is important to bring hiking gear. There are to ways to get up; the summer path (very steep and many people use this path when walking up the mountain) and the winter path (less steep but longer). The hike in total may take 6-8 hours, and the view from the top is truly worth it.

Yonas Pizzerias takopizza is one of the best culinary experiences I can recommend in Tromsø. The takopizza is a taco-type pizza with thick dough and a heavenly taste. And no, I am not sponsored - it is truly that good. Known to all Tromsø people, I recommend buying the biggest size - maxi- as the smaller ones are a bit small. Also, there is a student offer on Mondays - 20% off.

Save money on food

It can be expensive visiting Norway, but luckily there are ways to reduce the total spend. One way to save some money is buying food from the grocery store and cooking yourself. Try to buy local Norwegian ingredients, such as salmon or other fish species, reindeer meat, vegetables and fruits, local beer and soda (brand is called Mack), not to forget the famous brown cheese.
