Neighbourhoods

There are many gorgeous towns within driving distance of the Director's Cottage offering beautiful swimming spots, stunning wineries, breathtaking sceneries, wonderful adventures and fabulous shopping. Here are some of our favourites.
Sorrento is a scenic seaside town nestled along the coast. There are plenty of cafe's, restaurants and clothing stores to visit. The surf beach is gorgeous but is not recommended for the inexperienced swimmer. The bay beach is perfect for families with young children. There are many different swimming spots to choose from. Our favourite is Sullivan's Bay - which is located on the Point Nepean Road about 1km before arriving the township of Sorrento.

Portsea is a small town located at the very end of the Mornington Peninsula. It is an affluent area with stunning mansions perched on the clifftops. Take the Millionaire's Walk to Sorrento along the cliff tops, through landscaped gardens and past private jetties for vantage points of their imposing mansions. Take in stunning views of the calm waters of Port Phillip Bay and the contrasting ocean beaches. The best swimming beaches are Shelly Beach and Point King. The surf beach is patrolled during the summer months and is well worth a visit. Slow down after a day on the water with an evening with friends on the green lawn of the historic Portsea Pub. Explore the fascinating labyrinth of 19th century tunnels and fortifications in the Point Nepean National Park that were built to guard Port Phillip heads. Pay a visit to the historic Quarantine Station, established in the early 1800s as grazing land and re purposed as a haven for refugees.

Mr Morce is an excellent restaurant specialising in local seafood. It has a sunny courtyard for the summer months and a roaring fire inside during the winter months. The owner, Troy, is a local footy hero (he played a number of games at St Kilda and has coached the Sorrento Sharks to a number of local premierships) and a fabulous bloke who looks after his guests very well.

Wine Region

Criss-cross the hillsides laced with vines and olive groves to meet local food producers and experience farm-to-table dining. Tuck into a cheese platter at Red Hill Cheeses, enjoy a cheeky drop at Red Hill Brewery and sample the intriguing wine bread at Red Hill Bakery. Stop in for all-day tapas and fresh produce at Green Olive at Red Hill or pick up eggs and raw honey at 2 Macs Farm. Finally, meet the goats that make the milk that makes the cheese at Main Ridge Dairy. Hop from one cellar door to the next and compare pinot noir, pinot gris and chardonnay. Take the shuttle service or sign up for a personalised wine tour instead of driving. Move on from wine country to cider territory. Pick strawberries at Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm, or pluck cherries at roadside farms. Select handmade and cottage industry creations at Red Hill Community Market (monthly) or pick up a piece from small independent galleries or studios.
