Just pass the IHOP from the metro station a couple blocks down Fairfax Dr, this is nice bar with a very good beer selection, good BBQ, and you can play billiards and Skee-Ball too.

Take the Orange or Silver line direct, a few stops past Smithsonian, and just walk down 8th St. SE to enjoy a variety of restaurants and bars, or take a bus to see the Washington Nationals baseball team by the waterfront.

The "930 CLUB" is one of the best venues in the entire country to see a live band, rated #1 by Rolling Stone magazine a few years ago. You can take the metro to L'Enfante Plaza and transfer to the Yellow/Green line north toward Greenbelt. When you exit the station you will find yourself on U St, which is yet another dynamic and interesting scene in DC all by itself. Check out Dukem, the Ethiopian restaurant nearby for some real DC culture and fun food :-)

Talk about a great sightseeing tour, and a fun way to do it floating up and down the river. Stop off at Theodore Roosevelt Island and have a picnic even. The National Park service won't mind :-)

Just remember to check in within 30 minutes or there's a extra charge ... but not big deal: you can check in and then check out immediately if you need to keep moving.

The Millennium Stage has free shows, so it's not always very expensive to enjoy venue. Just take the Orange or Silver line to the Foggy Bottom metro station, and then the free shuttle bus to the Kennedy Center. Don't forget to walk around the roof if you can - the view is amazing!
