Boat trips

You simply must try and include a boat trip while in Plymouth. They nearly all leave from the same place on the Barbican and there are lots of options.
The twin villages of Cawsand and Kingsand are a pair of 17th Century fishing villages once renown for their smuggling activities. The streets are narrow and twisting with pretty pastel-coloured houses and can be hard to negotiate for people not used to them so cars are best left at home. That’s why I recommend coming here by the ferry from Plymouth harbour. The two villages are part of Mount Edgcumbe Country Park and are within the Rame Peninsula, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. A calm sheltered bay which looks over Plymouth Sound and is generally considered a safe place for swimming. The beach is made of sand and shingle and also has many rock pools to explore around the edges. A good place for families.

Mountbatten was once an RAF base. Now it’s a haven for walkers, sailers and seafarers, there are diving schools and water sports centre and lovely places to eat and drink on the peninsula. The best way to get here is by water taxi from the Barbican
