Duomo di Orvieto Constructed in 1290 the cathedral is a striking combination of Gothic and Romanesque styles and is known for its ornate façade, featuring the Rose Window. Inside the cathedral the San Brizio Chapel features beautiful frescoes by Signorelli, themed around the Last Judgement. The Corporale Chapel houses the tabernacle which contains the Holy Body of linen stained with the blood of Jesus at the miracle of Bolsena. The tabernacle forms the focus of the annual procession of Corpus Domini. Faina Etruscan Museum Located in Palazzo Faina, an elegant building in Piazza Duomo, which enjoys a magnificent view of the cathedral. The museum showcases various Etruscan artefacts, including coins, ceramics and Etruscan bronzes. Torre del Moro A landmark in the heart of the city, situated at the crossroads between Corso Cavour, Via del Duomo and Via della Costituente. Steps lead to a spectacular terrace at the top of the tower which offers magnificent views of the city and the historic boroughs of Serancia, Corsica, Olmo and Stella. San Giovenale Church and Medieval District Set on the far western edge of the city, with far reaching views over the valley of the river Paglia, the church is thought to have been built in 1004. It houses an incredible range of frescoes dating from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century. It is also an excellent starting point for exploring what is thought to be the area from which the medieval citadel developed. Piazza del Popolo and Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo The Piazza del Popolo was originally conceived as a site for the palazzo of the Capitano del Popolo, a figure who assisted the consoli and Podesta in governing the city. The square was constructed between 1281 and 1284, while the Palazzo itself was completed in the early 14th Century and its terrace provides the ideal vantage point for visitors to enjoy the view of the square and its architecture. Today, Piazza del Popolo is the location for the local market held on Thursday and Saturday mornings, forms part of the procession route for the festival of Corpus Domini and hosts events for the Umbria Folk Festival. Pozzo di San Patrizio A masterpiece of hydraulic engineering. The well was completed in 1537 and is 54 metres deep and 13 metres wide. Its double helix staircase construction allowed the mules that collected and carried water to ascend and descend its 248 steps unhindered. The design also features 72 large windows, which not only allow light to pass into the well but provide visitors with some interesting perspectives on this fascinating structure. Macinelli Theatre Named after Luigi Macinelli, a famous composer and conductor. Guided tours are available, offering the chance to view the richly decorated interior attributed to Cesare Fracassini and Annibale Angelini. However, the best way to appreciate the beauty of the building is to go to a show.
