Not too far away from Ventenac, the road to Minerve winds slowly up the valley. Minerve is a miraculous village perched over the meeting of rivers. Perched where rivers tunnel through deep gorges where an impressive cave has been created. There are monuments and remnants from the massacre inflicted by Simon de Montfort during the crusades against the Cathars in France in 1210.

The Répudre Aqueduct is the first aqueduct built on the Canal du Midi in 1675. The canal was at the time considered one of the greatest construction works of the 17th century and is now one of the oldest in Europe still in operation.

The route that the Romans regularised and paved was ancient when they set out to survey it, so old that it traces the mythic route travelled by Heracles. The centre of Narbonne has part of it excavated and exposed to view.
