The White Tower of Thessaloniki is a fortifications of Ottoman construction of the 15th century (probably built between 1450-70). Today it is considered a characteristic monument of Thessaloniki and is what has been saved from the demolished Ottoman fortification of the city. The present form of the tower replaced a Byzantine fortification of the 12th century, to be used as a garrison yards and as a prison of death. Today it operates as a museum and is one of the most famous building-symbols of cities in Greece. It has 6 floors, 34 meters high and 70 meters perimeter.

The Byzantine Walls of Thessaloniki today have a length of about 4 kilometers, but the original perimeter they covered was 8 kilometers and their height was 10-12 meters. The wall for many centuries surrounded the city, including on the southwest side of the Thermaikos bay seaside walls, which, however, today do not exist. On the northeastern side it rises to the hills, including an acropolis, in which is also the defensive complex of Eptapyrgiou. In the western and eastern walls there are triangular cantilevers, while at the highest points and especially in the section separating the acropolis from the city there are rectangular towers. Their building includes recurring rows of bricks and rocks decorated with Christian crosses and ancient Greek symbols (sun illustrations, lozenges). A similar style is the Byzantine walls that survive in Constantinople. Today they are a special and remarkable monument of Thessaloniki, as well as one of its landmarks, and have been officially declared UNESCO World Heritage Monument.

The first exhibition is about the Early Christian temple, the architecture and the decoration of churches in the first centuries of Christianity. In the third exhibition titled "From the Chalices in the Christian Paradise", the issue of the burial of the dead and the cemeteries of the early-Christian Thessaloniki (4th-7th centuries AD), a period marked by the transition from idolatry in Christianity. The next room, titled "From the Iconoclasm to the Shine of the Macedonians and Komnenos", is dedicated to the civilization of the Middle Byzantine period (8th-12th century AD), during which the Byzantine Empire reached a great spiritual and artistic acne, especially with the imperial dynasties of the Macedonians and Komnenos. In the exhibition are discussed through authentic exhibits topics such as monasticism, Iconoclasm and the action of the Thessalonian brothers Cyril and Methodius. The next two rooms are dedicated to the Byzantine Emperors and everyday life in a Castle during the Byzantine years. In the eighth and ninth rooms the collections of Dimitrios Economopoulos (with icons of the 14th-18th century) and Dora Papastratou with many religious engravings as well as wooden and copper matrices are hosted respectively. In the 10th room, titled "Byzantium after Byzantium", the Byzantine heritage is presented in the times after the Fall.
