Fun Tacoma Experiences

Things I've found to be interesting and generally fun experiences in Tacoma
There's always something interesting to check out along the 6th Ave business district. Whether you're looking for a pinball bar or record store, or a vintage clothing shop. You'll find something that suits your exploring needs. TIP: check out all the yarn laden bike racks. We call the eclectic grandma "The Tacoma Yarn Bomber."

Definitely a great spot to take a walk, bike, or rental scooter ride along the scenic Tacoma waterfront. In warm weather it's full of locals out enjoying the day. Along the way you'll see many interesting signs, markers, and even an original fire fighting boat that used to work the downtown area. Stop at Duke's for a bowl of clam chowder, or hit a movie at Point Ruston Cinemark theater.

A must visit in Tacoma. Point D, as we call it, has some breathtaking views high above the Puget Sound and you'll often see eagles, seals, and whales. Beware the raccoon packs, and please don't feed them. The scenic 5-Mile drive is a great way to get the lay of the land. Hiking trails are clearly marked with different colors for different routes. Point D Beach is small, but a great little spot to enjoy an afternoon (it's currently under renovation and the actual beach is closed to the public until Summer 2022, but the promenade along the water is still open for walking.

If you have the chance and feel like catching a movie look no further than The Grand! It's a Tacoma gem and has the best popcorn in town. They have 4 screens and show a lot of independent films and host several events during the year such as the Tacoma Film Festival. They serve beer and wine as well as other movie theater treats. Tip: have a coffee or pastry at Corina next door.

Wright Park is a wonderful outdoor space in Tacoma and has been a city park since 1895. There are over 400 different species of trees here and they are all labeled with dates of planting. The fountain and pond are gorgeous. Also check out W.W. Seymour Botanical Conservatory when you're here.

Great little spot in the middle of the city to go for a walk on some nice trails. Some parts are a bit steep with a lot of steps, so be prepared to break a sweat in Summer. Tip: start at 30th Street entrance and walk down to Ruston Way to explore a bit before heading back up the hill.

Total dive bar, but a Tacoma legend. The place is actually shaped like a giant coffee pot. The walls are plastered with mementos and dollar bills customers have written notes on. TIP: Karaoke on weekends is a lot of fun. Come for chats with quirky long time locals and cheap beer, leave wanting a shower. haha

Great place to catch a comedy show. Some of the best comedians in the country roll through Tacoma. I recently did stand up comedy classes here and it was a blast!

Karaoke at Camp Bar is great! Martin is a fun host and the crowd is always fun. Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 9pm. Every Tuesday they have BINGO where the first 5 games are free, the 6th game is $2 per 3 card blackout game; winner takes the pot. Tip: Order make your own S'mores and they'll be delivered to your table where you can roast your own marshmallows and get your camping vibe on.
