Our Favourite Restaurants on the Mountain

Here’s our guide to the best mountain restaurants in Alpe d’Huez and Oz-en-Oisans for every budget. The Alpe D’Huez Grande Domaine can rival most places for the lunchtime scene on the slopes. The number and variety of restaurants is huge. Most are good value compared to other resorts in Europe and some of our favourites are below. I’m including information on places that you get to by lifts if someone in the group wants a day off skiing, or if you fancy a long and leisurely lunch with not much skiing after.
A quick ski from the top of the Poutran ski lift from Oz. Cozy, friendly staff.

Go down the blues to Vaujany. A classic. Built around a huge rock, it was originally a goat herder’s refuge. Good value, cozy. The fabulous sun terrace is warm as you have come down to a lower altitude here.

Top of Poutran bubble, walk round the corner to the left to DMC mid station. No skiing required. A big place but surprisingly cosy and very obliging staff. Good quality food. Apres scene good on the terrace when it’s sunny.
Chantebise 2100
1 Tronçon du Téléphérique Des Grande Rousse

Another classic, but a bit tricky to get to. Go to the top of DMC and turn left at the top onto the red run – this is easier than the blue run that you turn right to get to. Towards the end of this run, see the sign on the right to the restaurant. At the end of this run, just before the restaurant, there is a short schuss which then goes upwards. As this goes over the top, you take off if you are going fast – so take care. It is worth it – wood grilled dishes and a perfect mountain refuge atmosphere.

Restaurants and Bars in Oz-en-Oisans

Whilst the village is definitely not the biggest in the Alps; the local restaurants are, for the most-part, more than capable of competing with even the flashiest of ski resorts.
The best fondues, raclettes and hot stones in the village (to be honest, the fondue is one of the best that I've had in the world)

LA POTEE'OZ
Truly spectacular. For special occasions and the foodies amongst you, it's well worth it to take a taxi down to visit for the best food in the area.
