"The name of this lovely vintage bistro says much about young chef Loïs Guenzati's work - his creations are full of the colour and fragrance of the market. Ravioli of ox cheeks with a truffle emulsion, red mullet and crunchy riquette salad and veal kidneys on the grill are just a few reasons why the restaurant is so popular!" Michelin

it’s fish and chips in the UK, moules-frites in Brittany, calamari in Italy … But in Nice, and most of France’s Côte d’Azur, the quintessential seaside snack is pan bagnat – a substantial round pain de campagne generously filled with tuna, egg, tomato, onion and olives, and drenched in garlicky vinaigrette. It’s basically a salade niçoise stuffed into a loaf, the copious dressing making the bread wet (bagnat, in Niçois dialect). Kiosque TinTin on Place de la Libération offers pan bagnats big enough for two, beaded glasses of chilled rose, and a ringside seat on the local farmers’ market." The Gardian

This restaurant has excellent Pizzas (real napolitan recipies) and Traditional French/Italian Cuisine. It has become our favourite restaurant just at the corner, 5 mn walk. Pizzas are by far the best for miles around. If you like mushrooms, you definitively have to test "la pizza aux sanguins". The Gnocchi are delicious too, as is the steak and "escalope à la crème"... generous portions. For desert, we recommand the cafe gourmand or delicious tiramisu. You'll experienced here a simple lunch or diner but in a friendly, typical "Niçois" atmosphere.

Since over 25 years, Father Gil Fiorini creates aperitifs and liqueurs available for sale. He created the famous “Pastis de Nice” entirely based on natural products, 8 years ago. Since late May 2015, a boutique now sells this pastis along with many artisanal specialities like the calissons or nougat, at the heart of Nice abut 5 mn walk from Le Mirabeau. In an area of 300m², it is possible to discover, at no cost, the soaking tanks, bottling and labeling process of the pastis bottles: the entire fabrication method. “Pastis de Nice has no preservatives or coloring, meaning no caramel that often gives this heightened yellow color to industrial pastis - explains Céline Florini, Manager of the Pastis de Nice Boutique - there is no added sugar. It is purely composed of 24 plants and spices that soak in alcohol for several months. This is why the Pastis de Nice a is lot more smooth tasting than industrial pastis.” Your sustainable contribution: supporting an artisanal and ecological production by buying pastis de Nice.

Great Microbrewery for a Unique Beer Experience. Just at the corner. Very good comments on Trip Advisor : “Great find for beer lovers” No tap room, but the owner is very generous in allowing you to sample his three mainstays and special beers. We especially enjoyed the blond (Zytha) and the ESB. You are able to purchase bottles to go. The best part was meeting the brewer/owner and hearing him describe his passion for brewing and plans for the future. A great experience! Limited hours, but he stayed open past his 7 pm closing time for us and provided good suggestions on other beer stops in Nice.

Walk 6058 - Gordolasque Valley from Pont du Gountet This short walk provides an easy introduction to the delights of the Gordolasque Valley with its superb mountain scenery. The start is just over one hour drive from Nice using the N202 to Plan-du-Var and then taking the D2565 towards Lantosque. Continue up the Vesubie Valley and take the D171 to Belvédère and the Gordolasque. Care is needed to make sure you take the correct road immediately prior to Belvédère. From this village the narrow road winds its way up valley to reach a large parking area near the Pont du Gountet (1690m). This is the start of the walk. The walk starts from sign no. 411 and stays on the west bank of the River Gordolasque. Continue upstream passing some immense boulders, which are used by climbers for bouldering, to reach sign no.413. Cross the river here using the bridge. Once on the other side, bear right to follow the clear track on the east bank of the river. This change of scene has its benefits as the retrospective view up the valley is superb and much better than the view from the path used on the other bank at the start of the day. Cross the river at sign no.412 using the Pont du Gountet to reach the car park.

Visit the old medieval village of Beuil. Beuil is a large mountain village about one hour from Nice. The road, "Les Gorges du Cians" crosses an unusual and unforgettable valley of red rocks. Nevertheless this old medieval village contains many treasures: a fine stone church (17th century) with a Romanesque bell tower, the Chapel of St Jean-Baptiste with a trompe-l'oeil façade (the false marble and columns are the work of Guy Ceppa), arcades, vaulted passageways and doors dating back to the Middle Ages. A stroll through the cobbled streets and alleyways of Beuil will enable you to discover a lively, industrious village, where the bells ring out the angelus morning, noon and night, and which smells of wood fires: what could be more authentic ! What to see : Parish Church St. Jean the Baptist. 3 Chapels (Penitents blancs, Ste Anne, St Pierre, St Jean Baptiste) Notre Dame du Rosaire.

The Castle of Nice was a citadel used for military purposes. Built at the top of a hill, it stood overlooking the bay of Nice from the 11th century to the 18th century. It was besieged several times, especially in 1543 and in 1691, before it was taken by French troops in 1705 and finally destroyed in 1706 by command of Louis XIV. Nowadays, Castle Hill is used as a park. It's the most famous public garden in Nice, and a "must see" place for the numerous tourists who visit the city. It offers many amazing panoramas, and provides a beautiful view all day long from sunrise to sundown, highlighting various landscapes depending on where one looks: the Harbor at sunrise, the Promenade des Anglais

This is a National Museum devoted to the work of artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985). The museum was created during Chagall’s lifetime and the artist contributed to the design and concept of the museum, specifically the garden which was designed by Henri Fish. Chagall decided how each of his paintings would be displayed in the museum. In addition to the paintings the work of the artist can be seen in the mosaic which overlooks the garden pond and the stained glass which decorates the concert hall. The highlight of the museum is a collection of seventeen paintings comprising the Biblical Message Cycle which illustrates Biblical messages from Genesis, Exodus and the Song of Songs. The paintings were gifted to France by the artist in 1966 and in 1972 gave the museum his preliminary sketches of the Message Biblique and the stained glass and sculptures. Further paintings and drawings were acquired in the 80s depicting the Exodus and the triptych Resistance, Resurrection, Liberation. The museum collection has grown over time and now holds one of the largest number of Chagall works in the world with 400 pieces in various mediums.

Sightseeing

Beginning in the mid-19th century, Russian nobility visited Nice and the French Riviera, following the fashion established decades earlier by the English upper class and nobility. In 1864, immediately after the railway reached Nice, Tsar Alexander II visited by train and was attracted by the pleasant climate. Thus began an association between Russians and the French Riviera that continues to this day. The cathedral, consecrated in December 1912 in memory of Nicholas Alexandrovich, Tsarevich of Russia, who died in Nice, was meant to serve the large Russian community that had settled in Nice by the end of the 19th century, as well as devout visitors from the Imperial Court.
