The Whittaker has changed hands, recently, i am not sure of the menu, I have been informed that it is a bit pricey, not your usual park cafe at all, it is very lovely, and it was once the museum, it still artifacts upstairs that i believe you can go and see.

It has great bands, it has been opened for a long time, and has a great following, it is on 2 floors, so the acoustics are amazing, it also has a great bar too, and no idiots.

well what can i say, this has only just opened, and it is perfect, to me its like a little bit of Manchester arriving here, a lovely Gin bar, with lots of micro brewery ales to choose from, good music, and very very long, from the front it just looks like a small bar, but it is very large inside and done out very well, it also has live music on, at the weekends, not sure about during the week.
Northern Whisper Tap Room

The Buffer Stop, is a little bar based at the steam train station, where the trains stop, hence "Buffer Stop" it is a micro brewery, but also has lovely hot pies and pasties for sale, like a northern Tapas, its a great meeting place, and its great to pop in on your way to a night out, or just sit and chat away all night, a really nice bar, that attracts people of all ages and walks of life, it also welcomes dogs. it does sometimes have live music, it also host the 1940s weekend in May, The Flying Scotsman pays a visit once a year, as well as Thomas the Tank, and his friends.

Whittaker park is a lovely little park, it has a fenced in area for children, it is dog friendly, it also has what is locally known as the cage, which is a caged sports pitch, paid for by a footballer, it is lit up during the winter nights too, it is free, it also has tennis courts, free. it also host its own lovely bar and restaurant, called The whittaker, it is known to be pricey though, so check out any offers.
