Locally famous for over 500 years, and latterly made famous across the globe by Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's War Horse, the Duke is a wonderful spot to relax and unwind with a drink or a bite to eat. The Duke of York is a 5 minute drive from Churchy Cottage or an hour's leisurely stroll across farm land via public footpaths and ancient rights of way.

Local outdoor activities
Donna and her team at Cholwell Farm provide a fantastic service and have made this destination a firm favourite of ours. With over 30 horses and ponies to choose from, the staff at Cholwell are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, they will make sure you are well looked after. PS, their farm is situated on the moor itself, and in our opinion there is no better way to explore Dartmoor than on horse back.
