City/town information
Aspen is one of the most beautiful cities in the Rocky Mountains. Internationally recognized for its idyllic setting, wonderful climate, great skiing, fantastic dining and outdoor recreation, Aspen has also claimed a reputation as a “party town”, but it has a quiet side as well. A city with history, love of the visual and performing arts, and easy outdoor activity access have encouraged many families to call this home.

Food scene
Aspen dining ranges from home-style to fine - and is always fantastic. Every restaurant and cafe will be a unique and tasty experience but there are so many from which to choose, making specific recommendations is pretty impossible. Walk around the city in the first few days of your visit, get used to the altitude before embarking upon your favorite sports (especially if you come from sea level), and make your selections of places you would like to try for lunch or dinner. There are a couple of places for barbecue meals which are on the west side of the city, however, so if you love this type of food check out Aspen Hickory House on 730 West Main Street or Home Team BBQ located at the Inn at Aspen by the Buttermilk Ski Area.

The Saturday Market is a must.

From June to early October, visit the market early in the day to get the best produce selections. The Aspen Saturday Market also features many local artisans selling a variety of items - so you can shop here for a “taste of Aspen” to carry along or send home. Aspen Saturday Market is located in downtown. It makes a U-shape from the corner of Galena and Hopkins to Hunter Street and then back to the intersection of Hyman and Galena.

Take it slow and drink - water.

There are so many opportunities for outdoor adventure that it is not uncommon to want to rush right to it, but taking a day to get used to the altitude is good practice. Set aside this beginning time to visit the city - check out restaurants and stores and/or attend a concert. Pick up an Aspen Times or Aspen Daily News (or get them online) and read about the week’s activities and concert schedules. Too much physical activity too fast plus dehydration (keep that water bottle filled and handy) could lead to acute mountain sickness, which can occur to anyone of any fitness level.
