Mollands and North Devon

Sightseeing

RHS Rosemoor is only about 20 mins awat, at Great Torrington. It has 65 enchanting 65 acres of landscape, cottage and fruit gardens. Rosemoor is beautiful. Carefully planted to retain the essence of rural North Devon, Rosemoor has a dramatic backdrop of steep wooded valley sides. For years, the RHS has been trying to create wildflower meadows at Rosemoor. The have made amazing progress - but they are not nearly as lovely as the genuine wildflower meadows at Mollands. In all seasons Rosemoor has colours, scents and textures to stimulate your senses in both formal and informal gardens, plus woodland walks, water features and open spaces

Castle Hill Garden is a glorious 18th-century landscape garden surrounding a Palladian mansion built in 1730 for the Fortescue family. The garden is dotted with neo-classical temples and follies, with the mansion acting as a backdrop. Castle Hill is, without doubt, one of the finest historic gardens in south-west England.

Neighbourhoods

Locally there are beautiful nature trails and cycle paths like the Tarka Trail, hiking and wildlife watching on the moors or some of the best surfing in the UK at the nearby beaches like Croyde and Woolacombe. You will also find access to hundreds of miles of spectacular walks along the North Devon Coast, following the South West Coast Path. This all makes Mollands an ideal base for your short break.

Food scene

The Exeter in dates from the 16th century when it was built to serve travellers on the road from Barnstaple to Exeter. Most of the original architectural features have survived, including two real fires, one of which has a bread oven. There are not many places like the Exeter Inn left in England. We are lucky to have one of the few genuine village inns left. The food is, quite honestly, wonderful and the atmosphere is welcoming and like nothing you can find in the city.
