Secret bars of Melbourne
Highly recommended for the music lovers. This is the best piano bar in Melbourne where you can order songs, get the room to sing along and wash away the day with hand shaken cocktails Melbourne style. Perfect for the week-day travellers as Friday and Saturday night this place tend to be so packed there's barely any standing room, but if you like Piano man, this is the place to be.

This place is a must for any Whisky lovers. Not only do they have some rare and hard to find bottles locked up in glass cabinets with tiny keys, they also offer truffle toasties and local oysters till 3 am in the morning. With the rest of the city going to sleep at just past midnight this place is perfect if you get the munchies and want to wash it down with some decent whisky, Melbourne style.

Good place for mingling and meets on a Thursday or Friday night. A large enough bar up and downstairs suitable for groups as well as new people in town looking to make friends with some locals. Great rooftop bar for the summer days!

Food scene
If you enjoy Japanese style sweets this place has about as good as you can get outside Japan. Made with local Australian ingredients (aka: amazing milk) these guys bake everything on-site, every day. You can get a cake, ask for a fork and go across the road to the benches and share it with friends or family on the spot!

The menu has not changed in over 15 years, this place does old school authentic Japanese like they did in Japan back in the last 1980s. Tiny space, tiny chairs and tiny tables, with some delicious things to try the family who runs this place make everything on the menu from scratch and it is a must-try.

If you are a steak lover this is a must-try. Rare has 3 locations in the CBD of Melbourne and any of the 3 branches can do a great deal for any meat lover's tastebuds. If you are going solo or with a group, any item on the menu will leave you satisfied, but if you happen to be going as a party of 2, please try the "CHATEAUBRIAND" on the menu as the platter will be more than enough to share and to sate while keeping the budget to a semi-resonable range for the food you'll be getting. My recommendation: Get the red wine jus with the meat and try the chocolate cake for dessert, they are to die for.

This is not just a market but a foodies dream! You don't need to come here for groceries, simply come for the food! You can start the morning here with great coffee from one of the cafes followed by the croissant at Agathé Pâtisserie, (Well worth the price by the way) then after some wandering around at the boutique stores nearby you can come back to the market and get everything from cheese to hams to fresh oysters and simply eat them right there at one of the tables in the market. Just don't forget to clean up after yourself and you'd be enjoying the best of the market at half the price a restaurant would charge you.

Another local favourite and off the map for many, Sud is one of those places you sit down and don't want to leave. The staff is warm and welcoming, the wines are delicious and the food even more so. Come for the main and stay for the wine, cheese and dessert. The people here are genuine and they will make you feel right at home. Good place if you like a touch of modern Italian.

A great stop for those with kids or simply likes ocean life! This is within strolling distance to the apartment and has some great stuff to see. A very children-friendly place with a great penguin display, you can wander around here for hours and even part take in the shark feeding if you're game.

Pretty by night as one of the best views in Melbourne near here, well worth the 5 min walk to the riverside from the apartment door. This place is charming as a picture at night with fire displays by the waterfront and some decent restaurants with views to match. Best for dates, romantic getaways or anyone with a taste for pretty night views. The casino itself is a bit of a site too and if you like to try your luck the gaming floors offers games of all sorts.

Interesting things to do
This is a local secret and not often known to outsiders, this is a school, classroom where you can book last min short fun classes in anything and everything. They are a great non-for-profit organisation who teaches classes from food to crafts to self-care and science and everything you can think of. Great fun for someone who likes a bit of randomness in their travels. https://melbourne.lanewaylearning.com/
