Beartown State Forest offers hiking trails that go around Benedict pond,; The Appalachian Trail runs through it. Great place for swimming, picnicking, Fishing, kayaking canoeing.

Only about 45 minutes from the cottage, it's a wonderful place for a family. Tolland state park is on the edge of the Otis reservoir and you can spend the day there picnicking, swimming at the beach. There is a boat ramp And at the reservoir you may use motor boats as well as all sorts of other boats. There are plenty of hiking trails, full amenities at the state park such as bathrooms showers etc. Nearby in East Otis is Katies Ice cream and burger shack. And on Saturday mornings there is the East Otis farmers market which is a lot of fun. One of My favorite places to go.

Otis Ridge was recently acquired by Ski Butternut., It is a smaller ski area. The advantage is the cost is less and they offer night skiing. There is a nice restaurant The Grouse House on the property. Only 1/2 hour from the cottage.

Tanglewood is a very special place. You can enjoy wonderful music I'll picnicking on the lawn or you may use the seating in the hall. Either way you will enjoy it

This museum will take you back centuries to a time when John Sergeant, preacher to the Indians lived in Stockbridge known as the wilderness in those days. John surgeon is buried in the cemetery nearby. The first congressional church across the street is where he was a minister. Very historical interesting place to visit.

After years of various rentals the house fell into disrepair and was on the brink of being torn down. In June 1997 it was rescued by the Ventfort Hall Association. The non-profit has been repairing the damage, as well as trying to establish a national museum of the Gilded Age within its walls.

If you're up for a drive going to Mount Greylock is definitely a great place for sightseeing. Driving up to the top of the mountain you can see for miles and miles. You can see Vermont New York and Massachusetts. Hiking trails and picnicking it's beautiful up there.
