The Landscape

Holme is on the edge of the Dark Peak District. Even though this is a wild moor landscape filled with incredible walks, views and places of interest you are never very far from Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds. With smaller towns such as Huddersfield Halifax, Hebdon Bridge all with their own rich heritage. Holme Valley is a region of both upland moors and drystone walled sheep farms. Steep sided the valley offers a number of reservoirs built at the turn of the 20th Century. These countless fields and tracks provide engaging walks, with incredible views down the valley, tiny stone built hamlets, rushing rivers and wooded hillsides. You are never far away from a cozy welcoming pub or cafe.

Slaithwaite - pronounced Slawit - is on the up and up, it's got artisan bread, veg, burgers, artisan artisans making art! It's great to walk on the canal, have a beer, find a nice something to eat... it's even got a railway station!

Food scene

The Waggon & Horses in Langsett has been run by the same family for almost five decades. Pies here are a speciality and they keep a very well maintain cellar with excellent beers. There's an open fire when it's cold outside and a wonderful beer garden when the weather is fine. The Garden looks over Langsett reservoir and the moorland beyond, an incredible view made all the better with a pint and a pie!
