Neighborhoods

An old and traditional workingclassociety that is really well kept. The place was founded around the establishement of the ironfabric (jernverk) Eidsfos Verk in 1698. Eidsfoss Hovedgård was the home of the director of the Eidsfos Verk until 1991. It is now open to visitors in the summerseason and on special occasions. The garden is beautiful and has been restored to its original shape. There are also lots of other well kept historical houses and a museum of old ironovns made on the ironwork. Follow the signs from the centre of Eidsfoss and get a beautiful walk around the culturepath (kultursti). Eidsfoss has got a lot of artists within the range from ceramics, silver, knives, paintings, clothing etc. They have separate shops or workshops open to the public. Eidsfoss is the venue of different markets throughout the year - please check out the details and more information on https://visiteidsfoss.no/ The place has a cosy and warm atmosphere with beautiful surrondings and even a small grocery shop with fresh bread and other basic. Down below Hallen (the old community house for the workers at the ironfabric) you find another sandy beach, Verkstedstranda, which is perfect for children. There is also a brand new stage there that hosts the annual Eidsfoss Music Festival every year the last weekend of June.
